Hey riders Stage 8 of Tour de Red Rose tomorrow morning. Ride start times are 8AM and 1PM (SHORT ride only) from East Petersburg Elementary School. The long ride will leave the parking lot and make a left on Lemon Street. The short ride will leave the parking lot and make a right on State Street. The long/short routes cross shortly after the ride start at Carpenter and Stevens so the short ride will be delayed 5 minutes to allow the long ride to clear this intersection.

Ride notes and Ride Sweep details are below. Thank-you Jan Zerfoss and Lynn Pfeil for previewing!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our Short ride is 24 Flat Miles - Ride to Manheim Long

Ride Sweep AM/PM: Jake Regennas/Richard Conner

Ride Notes:

All signage and roads in good condition. No issues or concerns.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our Long ride is 37 Rolling Miles – Tour de Marietta

Ride Sweep: Vacant

Ride Notes:

The following roads have been oiled/chipped recently: (part of) Rock Point, (all of) Waynesboro, and (part of) Iron Bridge. All are easily ridden but be careful turning onto them, especially Waynesboro.

Long Lane is CLOSED between Marietta Ave (23) and River Rd (441). Given the specifics of the situation with the bridge, I recommend you stay off this road and choose one of two options.

When Long Lane hits Marietta (mile 13.6), you normally make a right and a quick left to continue on Long Lane. INSTEAD, you can just continue on Marietta (having made the right turn) and proceed to the intersection (light) and go STRAIGHT (onto Market St) to be back on the route. SEE BELOW MAP, YELLOW HIGHLIGHT IS DETOUR, RED X IS ORIGINAL ROUTE

OR at mile 13 TURN RIGHT on Donegal Creek, and then turn right on Marietta and proceed to the intersection (light) at Marietta and River Rd. This option has you off Marietta Ave which is busy, with cars going fast.

Either one has you on Marietta Ave going straight at the light to be back on cue.

Minor things 😊:

Mile 7.7 when turning onto Garfield from Prospect, there are some big potholes/rough areas. Given that you are traveling quickly on Prospect, and turning, just be aware of them!

In Landisville (early and later in the ride), there are pretty rough sections on Stanely and Cooper. It appears they may be getting ready to some work on these roads.

If you prefer getting off roads with lots of traffic at high speeds...At mile 31.3 when you turn left (from Eby Chiques) onto Prospect, the ride goes straight onto Spooky Nook. Other versions of this ride have had you bear right on Prospect (31.4), which is much more pleasant. These roads are parallel and you are easily back on cue around mile 32 when you turn right on Broad.

Be safe, stay hydrated, and most of all Have Fun!
