Riding a bicycle during the fall season can be a beautiful experience, but it also comes with unique challenges. Here are some tips to help you stay safe:

1. Wear Appropriate Gear:

Layer Up: Fall weather can be unpredictable, so wear layers to stay warm. Make sure your clothing is breathable and moisture-wicking. Early Fall can start in the morning at the 50 degree range and later on in the ride approach 70+ degrees.

Do not overdress as well.

Bright Colors and Reflective Gear: With shorter daylight hours and potential fog, wear bright or reflective clothing to make yourself more visible to drivers.

Gloves and Hat: Keep your hands and head warm, as these areas lose heat quickly.

2. Check Your Bike:

Tire Pressure: Cold weather can cause tire pressure to drop, so check and adjust it regularly.

Lights and Reflectors: Ensure your bike is equipped with front and rear lights, and that reflectors are clean and visible.

Brake Maintenance: Wet or leaf-covered roads can be slippery, so make sure your brakes are in top condition.

3. Be Cautious on the Road:

***** Watch for Wet Leaves: Wet leaves can be as slippery as ice. Try to avoid them, especially on corners.

****Slow Down: With reduced visibility and potentially slippery conditions, reduce your speed, especially on descents or sharp turns.

****Be Aware of Debris: Fall winds can blow sticks, branches, and other debris onto the road. Stay vigilant and be prepared to swerve safely if needed.

4. Plan for Shorter Days:

Ride During Daylight: Try to ride during daylight hours when visibility is better.

Carry Lights: If you must ride in the early morning or evening, make sure you have  good quality lights and wear reflective gear.

5. Stay Hydrated and Nourished:

Hydration: Even in cooler weather, you still need to stay hydrated, so bring water.

Snacks: Cooler weather can increase your energy expenditure, so pack snacks to  keep your energy levels up.

6. Be Prepared for Weather Changes:

Rain Gear: Carry a lightweight rain jacket in case of sudden showers.

****Check the Forecast: Always check the weather forecast before heading out to avoid getting caught in a storm.

****By following these tips, you can enjoy a safe and pleasant bike ride during the fall season. AS ALWAYS…BE SAFE…..BE AWARE.
